I have written a few posts about activities that happen in the local Essex/Hudson County community. It is important to be involved with where you live – there is always so much to do! And in Newark, a lot of the activities are free, which is great for anyone interested in getting involved with the awesome-ness that is Newark!
I am very happy to say that Newark is pushing to become a more sustainable, eco-friendly safe-haven. By bringing companies like Covanta, Whole Foods, and Aerofarms to the community, as well as creating a Sustainability Office, they are taking the necessary proactive steps to making the world, and the Newark Community, a better place to live.
Below is a list of activities that are happening in the Newark Community. The items in green are activities that I will be attending.
May 20th – Barringer HS Community Food and Clothing Pantry
- On May 20th at 90 Parker Street in Newark, NJ, Barringer High School will hold a grand opening of its new community food and clothing pantry from 1-4 PM. This will be a great outreach program to help support the families in need of assistance with essential household items such as food and clothing. It is also a great Zero Waste idea – you can bring items to donate, and it will go to a great cause!
May 27th – Clean, Money, Family Zone
- From 3 to 8 PM on May 27th, the Newark Youth Ambassadors and CMF will team up to promote Hawthorne Ave as a Community Safe Zone. CMF stands for Clean, Money, Family and it is an organization that bridges the gap between positive ideas in the community and bringing them to fruition. This means that the young adults in the community pledge to keep it clean and safe. This event is also sponsored by the Newark Police Department and City Hall.
June 10th – Family Fun Day for Newark Public Schools
- On June 10th from 10 AM – 2 PM, Newark Public Schools will be hosting a fun event at Branch Brook Park for families of kids at NPS. You need to RSVP, but there will be face painting, bouncy houses, free food, and a lot of fun celebrating the smart students at Newark Public Schools. I plan on bringing my nephew for some fun and games, and can’t wait to enjoy the beautiful day with colleagues.
- If you have any questions about any of these details please feel free to contact NPS at 973-733-7333.
- Rain date is June 17th.
