So I recently found this amazing Ted Talk by Kristine Ullaland (www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7dMVx08St4) in which I learned that there are 5 (NOT 3) R’s that help support our environment.
- REFUSE things you do not need.
- REDUCE your waste.
- REUSE everything you can.
- RECYCLE things than can be recycled.
- Let things ROT.
That inspired me to make my first video blog about my love of composting, or letting things ROT and how I am going to REFUSE to waste what I do not need. My birthday is December 15, which falls around the holiday season. You would think that sometimes I would get the combo presents, but actually I remember receiving more gifts than just the standard 2. As young children, and adults, we grow up thinking that every special occasion, we have to ask for and receive new things.I am here to show that, whatever the holiday, it is not necessary to receive anything other than love. I would rather have more trees in the world than have another pair of sneakers, or a new video game. The most important blessing I have is to be around family and share laughter this holiday season.
So this holiday, I do not want anything for my birthday or Christmas. Instead, I am asking my loved ones to donate to standfortrees.org in my name.
