Class Dojo is an amazing tool to connect home and school. Our school has many teachers using it, and I love using it in my classroom. Not only does it help with classroom behavior interventions, but it also gives parents an insight into their child’s learning. Especially with a large population of limited and nonverbal students, parents cannot ask their child “How was your day at school?” Class Dojo helps parents know what their child is working on at school, and it helps students and parents connect their home and school learning.
Homework is a very complicated topic to talk about as a teacher of students with special needs. I understand the benefits of it, and when parents have the time, understanding, and ability to help students with homework, there can be benefits. However, when I work with students in my classroom, they are getting a lot of professional help – from me, my paraprofessionals, and therapists that come into the room. There is a way to work with our kids, and without the proper support, the benefits of “homework” often get lost.
That is where Class Dojo comes in. I can post pictures and send parents videos of their children doing work in the classroom, and parents can see and hear the language we are using when communicating with their child and imitate it. We can share visuals and pictures of their wonderful learners, and I can provide links to different beneficial websites and stories we make in class. Learning is not just with a pen and paper. Class Dojo is not only environmentally friendly, but it is also technology and parent-teacher friendly too.
